FAQs

Why choose Take My Blood?

We are experts in safe, professional blood testing. We follow strict UK guidelines on how to take blood from patients, and we are registered with the Care Quality Commission (CQC), the UK independent regulator for safe, high quality health and social care services.

Our clinicians have completed hundreds of blood draws and are best placed to provide you with a gentle, professional and safe way to take the sample you need.

How can I best prepare for my appointment?

You should follow and instructions given to you by your test provider, including any requirement to fast (not eat before your test) or pause any medication.

We also recommend drinking a glass of water roughly 1 hour before your appointment to ensure you are well hydrated to help blood flow.

You would also benefit from being warm, so dress appropriately to keep your body temperature warm.

Finally, ensure you wear a loose fitting or short sleeve top, so that the clinician can easily get to your arm without too much disturbance.

Please note that our phlebotomy appointments do not include use of a centrifuge.

Can I bring a friend to my appointment?

We know some people may be worried about having their blood taken. You are welcome to bring a friend or family member with you if you would like.

You can also make our clinician aware when you arrive if you are nervous so that they can help put you at ease.

We also find that bringing some headphones and music to listen is a good way to distract yourself whilst they take your sample.

Doctors have struggled to get blood from me before - how can you help

Our clinicians are very experienced and will do their best to get your sample as easily as possible. If you know that one arm typically works best when giving blood, please do let them know.

Following professional guidelines and with your consent, the clinician is allowed to try twice on each arm. If they still cannot draw blood, you may be asked to come back another time to try again.
